Adjunct Assistant Professor, Surgical Technology Program - Hiring for Fall 2024

Salary is determined per the SF Salary Schedule. 

Under general supervision, the Adjunct Assistant Professor, Surgical Technology Program will develop, prepare and teach Surgical Technology coursework.  Faculty may be assigned to SF’s main Northwest campus or at any of the program’s clinical affiliate locations.  Additionally, course offerings may be taught during the day, evening, or online.  Candidates must have the flexibility to teach assigned time and format at any site throughout the academic year.  Successful candidates will demonstrate the ability to reach a diverse student population, flexibility, willingness to work with others, and an interest in the integration of classroom and clinical experience. The candidate’s primary function will be to teach laboratory and clinical courses in Surgical Technology.  

This position is hiring for the Fall 2024 semester.

Responsibilities and Duties

  • Plan, organize, and deliver instruction in didactic, laboratory and/or classroom settings to promote student success within a community college setting.
  • Support and promote the college and departmental missions centered on excellence in teaching and learning through quality instruction, curriculum enhancement, and service.
  • Collaborate with department chair, faculty, and peers to evaluate, revise, and develop curriculum to cultivate the mastery of course content.
  • Strictly honor the privacy and security of student records and other sensitive information according to appropriate state, federal and college regulations, policies and procedures.
  • Provide students with frequent, timely assessment of and clear feedback regarding academic performance.
  • Appropriately document student progress and maintain records including attendance, grading and student learning outcomes.
  • Maintain appropriate office hours proportionate to the instructional assignment.
  • Assist the Program Director with preparing reports for internal and external audiences.
  • Coordinate, implement and evaluate the clinical education component of the curriculum; (i.e. initiate and maintain clinical affiliate contracts, student clinical rotation placement, clinical affiliate visits and evaluations); ensure effective program operation and compliance with ARC/STSA, SACS, or other regulatory agency requirements.
  • Correlates clinical education with didactic education and evaluates student performance and learning.
  • Maintain current knowledge of the discipline and educational methodologies through continuing professional development.
  • Participate in student recruitment and advisement.
  • Participate in meetings and program advisory committee work as designated.
  • Assist with implementation of college policies, procedures, and practices in accordance with SF college philosophy, values, and mission.
  • Provide service excellence through courteous, informed, accessible and professional engagement.
  • Work a flexible schedule at multiple worksites.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Reports to: Department Chair, Allied Health Programs

Qualifications

Required: A credential in the field of surgical technology that is through a national credentialing organization that is accredited by the National Committee of Certifying Agencies (NCCA) and a minimum of 2 years clinical experience as a Surgical Technologist. Completion of an accredited surgical technology programA criminal background check will be conducted.

Preferred: Candidates with teaching experience in an accredited educational program in Surgical Technology.
