Under direct supervision, this position is responsible for multiple significant functions in Biology teaching and preparation areas. May be responsible for tracking laboratory equipment and supplies. Position refers problems to experts as needed. Activities involve a variety of routine tasks such as cleaning glassware, and many non-routine tasks that require independent judgement to resolve lab-related issues.
Supports the lab coordinator and faculty in the preparation of labs for multiple biology classes including majors Biology I & II, non-majors Biology I & II, Medical microbiology, and Anatomy & Physiology
Maintains inventory and quality assurance of all science lab items, including cataloging and labeling of all lab materials
Prepares some chemical reagents, including standard acids and bases
Provides routine lab support including all aspects of lab safety and preparedness, cleaning, inspection and maintenance of labs, equipment and supplies
Provides assistance in proper disposal of chemical and biohazardous waste
Works with faculy as needed
Responsible for other reasonable, related duties as assigned
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:
Ability to stand long periods of time
Ability to lift 30 pounds
Ability to follow directions, both spoken and read
Ability to work well both individually and as part of a team
Excellent customer service skills
Must have an enthusiasm for science education and laboratory work
High School diploma (or GED)
Must have completed BIOL 1406 or BIOL 1408
Preferred to have completed BIOL 1406 and BIOL 1407 or BIOL 1406 and CHEM 1411
