POSITION: Instructor‐ Line Worker Program ‐ Corporate and Continuing Education Division – Position# 020506, (Class UB04/Slot 0005/Band 00)

MINIMUM TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE: Bachelor’s degree in a related field and a minimum of three (3) years of responsible, training‐related experience or an associate’s degree and a minimum of five (5) years of responsible, training‐related experience. Minimum of five (5) years of experience in installation, repair or maintenance of live overhead and/or underground utilities required. The equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered. A valid class A or B commercial driver’s license issued in the State of South Carolina preferred.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, and ABILITIES: Experience should include connection of transformers on hangers and platforms, taps and splices, installation of underground cable, pole and line installation, underground, overhead and precertification training for line work. Experience in pole climbing including pole rescue procedures required. Experience in the operation of trenching machinery and aerial trucks required. Experience in structured training delivery preferred. Knowledge of effective training and development practices and techniques. Ability to communicate effectively with business and industry representatives, students, faculty, staff and the general public. Ability to work independently and effectively multi‐task including scheduling, classroom/lab instruction and presenting to a variety of audiences, indicating (in a classroom setting and peer environment) that he/she possesses the required body of knowledge in the area of instruction being taught. Excellent written and oral communications skills; Strong organizational and teamwork skills required. Ability to travel tri‐county service delivery area. Ability to work flexible hours to include nights and weekends as needed.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 1. Provides students with appropriate course materials (syllabus, calendar, policy statements or guidelines). Adheres to course competencies in the preparation and delivery of quality instruction. Provides appropriate and timely feedback. Maintains a positive environment for optimum student performance. Provides for and values appropriate student input. Maintains accepted standards of achievement. 2. Maintains all records and documentation required for students and for equipment utilized in the course. Inspects and makes minor repairs to equipment to ensure equipment is in compliance with safety standards. Refers major repairs to program manager or designated repair centers. 3. Coordinates and promotes educational services that strengthen workforce development in the community. Collaborates with community organizations, secondary schools, and professional associations to promote the College. Serves on advisory committees as requested. Maintains a cooperative working relationship with College personnel. Adds value to the achievement of the Division’s goals of sustainability. 4. Provides appropriate academic and career guidance to students. May be assigned to develop and coordinate varied programming within the Division. 5. Establishes a professional development plan and participates in activities for self‐improvement in keeping with the Division and College Mission. Participates in appropriate activities that introduce new ideas or practices. Performs other duties as assigned.
