Description

Florida Gateway College is seeking a qualified individual to provide innovative lecture and laboratory instruction for the Automotive Technology program. The program is currently pending approval by SACSCOC.

Examples of Duties

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
 

  • Teaches 12 credits of lab and classroom work per semester.

  • Engages in student advising and college-wide committee assignments.

  • Develops and adapts automotive curriculum.

  • Secures ASE accreditation within 2 years using effective design and curriculum implementation.

  • Serves as the coordinator for the program.

  • Provides instructional coverage of course objectives.

  • Reviews and updates course objectives as requested by the Supervisor.

  • Responds to the special needs of students with disabilities as identified and requested by Disabilities Services.

  • Provide a classroom learning situation that is non-discriminatory and that provides equity for all students.

  • Provides students with course syllabus, inclusive of information such as grading procedures and attendance requirements, and submits a copy to the appropriate supervisor.

  • Provides the Executive Director of Occupational Programs with copies of examinations as requested.

  • Works with other faculty and staff in the discipline area to improve instruction/curriculum.

  • Comply with College rules and policies.

  • Maintains accurate class attendance records and submits final grade rosters as required.

  • Maintains all class assignment folders on each student.

  • Refers students to an advisor as needed.

  • Participates and attends meetings within the division to improve instruction.

  • Participates in program and/or activities that enhance professional development.

  • Attends the orientation for faculty as required and reviews the FGC employment handbook provided before teaching classes to become familiar with College policies/rules.

 
 
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Maintains and monitors appropriate records, reports, files and other documents related to instructional programs.

 

 

Minimum Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:  Bachelor's Degree highly recommended. An Associate's Degree with a minimum of 5 years of work experience in the auto technology area and a minimum of 2-3 years of experience in training/education in the field. ASE credentials required.
 
 
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES REQUIRED:   

  • Repairing - Repairing machines or systems using the needed tools.

  • Operation and Control - Controlling operations of equipment or systems.

  • Active Listening - Giving full attention to what other people are saying, taking time to understand the points being made, asking questions as appropriate, and not interrupting at inappropriate times.

  • Equipment Maintenance - Performing routine maintenance on equipment and determining when and what kind of maintenance is needed.

  • Operation Monitoring - Watching gauges, dials, or other indicators to make sure a machine is working properly.

  • Troubleshooting - Determining causes of operating errors and deciding what to do about it.

  • Complex Problem Solving - Identifying complex problems and reviewing related information to develop and evaluate options and implement solutions.

  • Judgment and Decision Making - Considering the relative costs and benefits of potential actions to choose the most appropriate one.

  • Critical Thinking - Using logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions or approaches to problems.

  • Equipment Selection - Determining the kind of tools and equipment needed to do a job.

  
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor's Degree.  College or technical school teaching experience is preferred.
