Operations Engineer

Job Description

OPERATIONS ENGINEER, MIT.nano, to be responsible for operation of, training on, and maintenance of semiconductor research equipment, including vacuum pumps, chemical delivery cabinets, and building systems serving those tools.  Will act as the primary interface between MIT.nano and the process and maintenance engineers from original equipment manufacturers (OEM) to ensure the successful performance of the tools.  Equipment includes reactive ion etchers, chemical and physical vapor deposition systems (PVD and CVD) and thermal processing systems.  Support equipment includes gas cabinets, valve manifold boxes, inert gas distribution panels, liquid chemical delivery cabinets, and abatement systems. Responsibilities include performing etch and deposition techniques; proper chemical handling, safety, and storage; and support system maintenance and service.  

Job Requirements:

REQUIRED:  B.S. in electrical/mechanical/chemical engineering, physics, chemistry, or related discipline; knowledge of and experience utilizing safe practices for working with hazardous materials; proficiency with hazard communication and safety information (e.g., safety data sheets, PubChem, etc.); excellent interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills;  interest in training the user community; and ability to recognize and respond to unsafe conditions/dangerous situations and work alone or within a team in a highly research-oriented yet disciplined environment that requires frequent interaction with faculty/students/research staff.  PREFERRED:  two years’ experience working in a cleanroom or semiconductor process facility; HAZWOPER certification; experience working with hazardous materials, including inert/flammable/toxic compressed gases, wet corrosive chemicals, and solvents; knowledge of established and emerging research processes; ability to assist researchers in experimental design; experience training one-on-one or in large groups; ability to convey complex ideas to personnel with diverse backgrounds and education; experience with program logic controllers; and proficiency with document and data management tools.  Job #24029
