Job Description:
 

POSITION SUMMARY: Under the general direction of the Dean of Natural and Health Sciences, the Program Director is responsible for all functions of Quincy College's cutting edge Biotechnology & Good Manufacturing Practice (BGMP) program. Responsibilities of this position include maintaining equipment and vendor relations, evaluating and updating the program and courses to meet industry requirements for entry level job positions, developing and maintaining program budget, seeking grant opportunities, building relationships with high schools, vocational service providers, and other workforce development providers for student recruitment, advising, and teaching in the program. Additionally, the program director must establish and maintain relationships with area pharmaceutical, biotechnology, and bio-manufacturing companies and professional organizations for partnerships leading to internships and job placement for students and workforce development opportunities for partner companies.

 

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Supervise the program instructors and provide oversight of management duties for all program facets;
  • Establish and maintain collaborative working relationships with personnel and companies involved in the Pharmaceutical, Bio-manufacturing and Biotechnology industries;
  • Prepare and maintain appropriate documentation and reports of the Biotechnology Program;
  • Lead projects in establishing new programs and locations;
  • Participate in student recruitment activities on behalf of the College and the BGMP Program;
  • Facilitate program student internships and collect data on job placements;
  • Provide direction for instructors in the development, implementation and evaluation of program curriculum;
  • Recommend class schedules and instructor assignments to the Dean of NHS;
  • Assume teaching responsibilities in appropriate courses within the Biotechnology & GMP Program including Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, Laboratory Compliance, and QC/GMP;
  • Orient new instructors to their roles and job responsibilities within the program and assist current instructors to identify and meet their professional development needs;
  • Collaborate with other faculty across the College to maintain and advance the health and status of the Biotechnology & GMP program;
  • Make recommendation to the Dean of NHS on relevant items to be included in the department annual budget;
  • Monitor the program budget and oversee the ordering of supplies and equipment as needed;
  • Plan and hold regular Biotechnology & GMP College Team Meetings and Biotechnology and GMP Advisory Board meetings;
  • Engage in the academic life of the College by serving on and participating in College committees;
  • In collaboration with program instructors and the Dean, address and resolve student issues;
  • Assist with administrative reporting required by College governance procedures to include but not limited to program review, program/course assessment, accreditation, and others as appropriate:
  • Participate in mandatory training/coursework; including but not limited to:
    • Canvas, Quality Matters, and Knowmia
    • Title IX and Sexual Misconduct
    • Sexual Harassment and Non-Discrimination
    • Security Policy and Notification of Security Reporting
    • FERPA
    • Municipal Ethics Law
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

 

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: Responsible for oversight and organization of all BMGMP faculty and instructors.

 

TRAVEL: This position may require teaching and attending meetings at Quincy and Plymouth Campuses and satellite or partner locations.


Job Requirements:


EDUCATIONAL EXPERIENCE: Master's degree in Biotechnology, Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, or related field. Doctoral Degree preferred.

 

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

  • Minimum of two (2) years teaching experience in the biological sciences;
  • Work experience in the life sciences or pharmaceutical industries;
  • Significant experience in good manufacturing practice (GMP) and quality control (QC);
  • Ability to use techniques and equipment consistent with Biotechnology/Bio-manufacturing education;
  • Experience in managing and maintaining laboratory equipment.

 

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS: Successful completion of Quincy College's certification program (Canvas, Quality Matters, Canvas Studio) for teaching or, in the sole determination of Quincy College, the equivalent of that program.

 

OTHER QUALIFICATIONS: Demonstrated academic and leadership excellence as well as compassion and enthusiasm for community college students. Demonstrated understanding of and commitment to education and working with a diverse student population. Demonstration of professional activity aimed toward maintaining currency in the discipline.
