Full Job Description

This position coordinates the programming, curriculum approvals, and course coordination for the Agribusiness Certificate, Agribusiness AAS, Environmental Certificate, and Environmental AAS programs. This position assists with scheduling Career Advancement seminars, training, and courses as they relate to Agribusiness and Environmental Science Technician. This is a faculty position but may have a mixture of teaching and administrative duties for degree and Career Advancement education. This position will carry a full-time teaching schedule. This position will assist with the establishment and maintenance of Agribusiness / Environmental facilities and teaching equipment located at all locations. This position is responsible for the recruitment and retention of students declaring Agribusiness and /or Environmental Science as their primary major with goals to increase the program enrollment in a consistent and predictable growth percentage annually.

This position will maintain and establish the Agribusiness and Environmental Science programs as both online and in-person formats. This position is a recruitment goal driven position that can meet course production and enrollment goals as set by the Associate Dean of Career Advancement Education and the Vice-President of the School of Workforce and Engineering. This position will work collaboratively with all Blue Ridge CTC offices including Enrollment Management, Financial Aid, and Career Advancement Education. The Agribusiness and Environmental Science Program Coordinator must be able to work independently and meet program outcomes and deliverables. This position will establish training at all Blue Ridge CTC campuses and locations. The position is housed at the Blue Ridge CTC Technology Center will include managing a virtual office as needed.

Duties and Responsibilities
Program Coordinator responsibilities vary from semester to semester:

Coordinate and schedule Agribusiness courses for the Agribusiness Certificate and AAS Program, in both online and in-person offerings.

  • Coordinate and schedule Environmental Science Technician courses for the Environmental Science Technician Program, in both online and in-person offerings.
  • Monitor and develop curriculum for the Agribusiness Program and Environmental Science Technician Program.
  • Develop related Career Advancement Agribusiness and Environmental Science courses.
  • Instruct credit and non-credit courses as assigned and approved by the Associate Dean of Career Advancement Education and the VP of Workforce and Engineering.
  • Maintain a full-time teaching schedule.
  • Partner with Blue Ridge CTC colleagues and departments to enhance student services and resolve student issues.
  • Serves as a member of at least one academic committee per year.
  • Represent Blue Ridge CTC at community and college functions relating to Agribusiness Programming
  • Participate in the Strategic Planning for the School of Workforce and Engineering and also individual strategic planning with the Associate Dean of Career Advancement.
  • Coordinate and manage the Agribusiness Advisory Committee and the Environmental Science Technician Advisory Committee, continually expanding membership that incorporates diversity and all aspects of the respective professional communities.
  • Attend professional development and training as mutually agreed upon for professional development.

Minimum Qualifications
Education

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Agribusiness, Agriculture, or related fields.
  • Master’s Degree preferred.

Experience

  • Experience in online adult teaching and online curriculum development preferred, or willingness to learn.
  • Minimum 3-years experience in adult teaching and/or training
  • Affiliated and active in local Agricultural / Environmental Organizations and knowledgeable regarding agricultural/Environmental education practices

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Ability to develop online curriculum and instruct in an online format.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills; ability to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing, and to relate to others in a professional, helpful manner.
  • Ability to multi-task in an environment of rapid change and growth and collaborate with all areas of the College in a positive manner that supports diversity and a respectful workplace
  • Must be detail and deadline oriented
  • Must be able to work independently with minimal clerical support and supervision.
  • Ability to utilize Word, Excel, Power Point and Black Board at an intermediate level required
  • Ability to write reports and business correspondence
  • Ability to present information and respond to questions from groups of students, managers, clients, customers, and the general public
  • Must be a team player, exhibit a positive attitude, and the ability to flourish in an environment characterized by multiple complex factors, competing priorities, ambiguous situations and resource challenges
  • Demonstrated ability to work both independently and as part of a team
  • Demonstrated ability to work well with faculty and administrators
  • Required to work a full 37.5 hours a week
  • Must be able to work a flexible schedule that could include early morning, evening hours or Saturdays (College recruitment events)
  • Must always present and represent Blue Ridge Community and Technical College in a positive light
  • Ability to relate to a diverse population and to maintain composure when faced with difficult situations
  • Ability to multi-task and organize, prioritize, and follow multiple projects and tasks through to completion with attention to detail.
  • Must follow College policies and procedures.

Licensure/Certification Required

  • Valid Driver’s license

All faculty positions are lecturer rank with temporary classification at entry.
