Associate Degree, (Bachelor Degree and ASL studies or related filed preferred).

Job Duties

Overall summary of the essential functions of the position.

The American Sign Language (ASL) Instructor is responsible for effectively instructing course work in ASL, and /or Deaf culture as assigned in accordance with established curriculum and/or developed syllabi. The ASL instructor is also responsible for evaluating and reporting student performance in accordance with department, division, and College policies and procedures.

  • Maintain current course syllabi and provide to students for all courses taught.
  • Be able to organize and present ASL course concepts to a wide range of students with varying backgrounds and abilities, and adjust teaching techniques accordingly.
  • Make recommendations concerning curriculum revision and development.
  • Maintain contact with the deaf community and related community
  • Assist in the process of requesting and maintaining institutional equipment and supplies for classroom use.
  • Manage a classroom setting in a way or manner that is acceptable and consistent with department and College objectives, guidelines, policies and practices.

Required Working Hours

A minimum of a 4-hour work week as determined with the supervisor to allow the employee to fulfill the assigned duties and responsibilities of the assigned ASL courses.
