Minimum Qualifications

· Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university in health education or other related fields
· 6,000 clock hours of verified occupational experiences in the specific trade to be taught;
· Massage Therapy licensure through the North Carolina Board of Massage and Bodywork Therapy.

Work Experience

Minimum of two (2) years of experience teaching adult learners in the skills of massage and bodywork therapy in a formal academic setting.

Essential Functions

The Massage Therapy Instructor is responsible for providing thorough, meaningful, and measurable instruction for students interested in becoming licensed massage therapists. The Massage Therapy Instructor will perform a variety of routine duties, as needed, to teach massage, bodywork/therapy, therapeutic massage, or other therapy which involves the manipulation of the muscle and connective tissues of the body to students from different backgrounds, ethnicity, nationalities, gender, ages, religions, or disabilities in the classroom and in the lab, using a variety of teaching methods such as lectures, demonstrations, and using audiovisual and technological aids to supplement the presentations.

Job Duties

The Massage Therapy Instructor will report directly to the Director, of Massage Therapy to perform a variety of routine duties such as:
Instructor
· Teaches massage, bodywork/therapy, or therapeutic massage to students from different backgrounds, ethnicity, nationalities, gender, ages, religions, or disabilities in the classroom and in the lab, using a variety of teaching methods such as lectures, demonstrations, and using audiovisual and technological aids to supplement the presentations.
· Instructs students on the significance of accuracy, sanitation, efficiency, resourcefulness, and good work habits
· Assigns lessons to students and corrects homework; administers tests to evaluate achievement of students in technical knowledge and practical skills; records results.
· Provides quality instruction at all times to adult students, teaching classes for the entire class period and properly covering the curriculum and outline for computer instruction.
· Assists in organizing program of practical and technical instruction, including demonstrations of skills required in massage professions, and lectures on theory, techniques, and terminology; prepares an outline of instructional programs and studies and assembles materials to be presented.
· Assists students, individually or in groups, with lesson assignments to present or reinforce learning concepts; responds to basic student questions; may initiate study groups in preparation for exams.
Other Responsibilities
· Assists in the areas of curriculum and lesson plan development, instructional methods, and training and evaluation of instructional staff. Assist the director with all responsibilities relating to program orientations, informational sessions, and job fairs.

· Assists director with communicating with, and scheduling, guest speakers, site visits, simulation activities, and mock interviews.

· Assists director in managing externship agreements and related matters between industry and student.

· Assists in tracking program progress and developing community resources.
· Acts as an additional liaison to the North Carolina Board of Massage and Bodywork Therapy (NCBMBT) and attends board meetings when required.
· Remains proficient of the rules and regulations of the NCBMBT.
· Enforces academic policy and procedures at all times.
· Represents the college in a positive and professional manner at all times.

Required Working Hours

A minimum of a 40-hour work week as determined with the supervisor to allow the employee to fulfill the assigned duties and responsibilities, including occasional evening and weekend hours.
