We invite applications for a tenure-track faculty position in Sociology, with teaching and/or research interests in Sociology of the Family and Environmental Sociology. We value quality in teaching first and foremost, and we thus seek enthusiastic scholars who likewise value and enjoy working closely with an undergraduate population in a student-centered, liberal arts-based environment. The successful candidate will enjoy teaching both Sociology majors and non-majors. The teaching assignment will require courses such as: Sociology of the Family, Social Problems, Environmental Sociology, Methods of Social Research and, of course, Introduction to Sociology. We are looking for a dynamic educator with a global focus who will help grow the Sociology program. This is a full time (10 month) tenure-track appointment. General Responsibilities Teach undergraduate Sociology courses to both major and non-majors. Participate in evaluation and development of program curriculum Participate in curricular and program assessment Demonstrate commitment to excellence in teaching, scholarship, and advising Contribute to the College and community through participation in College functions, community activities and committee service Specific Responsibilities Teach courses in the following areas: Sociology of the Family; Environmental Sociology; Social Problems; Introduction to Sociology and Methods of Social Research Teaching load is 4/4 Serve as academic adviser to Sociology majors Work with students on projects and field periods Contribute to the College and Division through participation in College functions Qualifications/Requirements PhD in Sociology (ABD considered if defense date is scheduled before 8/15/14) Candidates must demonstrate interest in, and the potential for, excellence in undergraduate teaching.
